PESTS AND PETS

As a part of the family, our animal friends, fur babies, pets, or whatever you call your extended family must also be kept healthy and safe. That starts with a safe home environment inside and out using pet-friendly pest control techniques.

While pest control helps protect your family from common pests, routine visits to a trusted veterinarian are important to help remain safe from ticks, rodents, mosquitoes, and more.

What can you do at home to reduce or control pests? Here are some common questions and answers.

Understanding Pet Friendly Pest Control  and Natural Pest Control Options

Q: Do my pets and I need to leave the house when BUGCO® is performing my pest control?

A: No. For routine pest control, we ask that no one, including pets, touch the treated areas until dry or at least 45 minutes or you can avoid having certain areas of the house treated.

Q: Are your treatments Pet-Safe?

A: Yes. When using products as per EPA guidelines all products are considered safe. BUGCO® Pest Control specialists are trained to follow all safety guidelines.

Q: But “Green” Products are better for pets and Eco-friendly right?

A: Wrong. Using these products can be dicey.

Training: Pest Specialists are trained to apply scientifically formulated products precisely based on the location and pest type.

Sensitivity: Your pets can have varying sensitivity or allergies to green products.

Certification: Not all products are regulated or may contain misleading marketing tactics. The term “green” or organic and other keywords can be applied loosely.

Treatment Methods: Misapplication of Diatomaceous earth, essential oils, or homemade traps can act as a repellent in all the wrong ways driving pests into hiding where they will breed until the treatment has worn away and the pests’ number will be higher than before.

other areas of the home or yard, have limited efficacy, or cause more harm than good.

Production Practices: Some green products may not perform as effectively as conventional options, leading to the overuse of products or more frequent applications, which could have a larger environmental impact.

Also, the manufacturing processes of some green products may not be as sustainable as claimed, such as sourcing ingredients from environmentally harmful practices or regions.

Preventative Measures to Keep Your Pets Safe

When it comes to pests and pets, there are things you can do to keep your pets safe. In some cases, the steps you take will be species-specific. Like your dogs going outside versus having inside only cats. Or

There are 3 things to look for in your yard and other items to look at on the exterior of your house that may allow pests entry into your house. Here are a few things we recommend:

The 3 Things Pests are looking for are Food, Water, and Shelter.

Start by making your yard as inhospitable to pests as possible. We recommend taking the steps below:

  1. Mow your lawn regularly so that the grass does not get too tall.
  2. Remove sources of standing water during mosquito season.
  3. Consider removing plants that attract wildlife like rodents and deer (sources of fleas and ticks).
  4. Clean your yard of any trash, animal waste, and dead plants (which attract pests).
  5. If your yard has a serious flea, tick, or mosquito problem, you might also consider treating your yard.

Finally, we recommend seeing your veterinarian to get a recommended flea/tick prevention treatment and for vaccination. Vaccines are available to protect your pet from West Nile virus (carried by mosquitoes).
